Cody Capella Cody Capella

Hello there.

As you’ve probably guessed, my name is Cody.

I’m a designer, developer, and photographer from northern California. I’m also an avid nordic skier, tennis-er and adventurer and am always learning. Being with family and friends is really important to me, as is going and seeing and doing things. I love taking on new projects and would be happy to chat with you about your next project, development or photography in general, or anything really. I’m pretty friendly, so don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Here's what I do.

Basically, I like to make things and explore new places.

Photography.

Ever since taking my first photo class as a freshman in high school, it’s become one of my biggest passions. I love exploring new places with my camera and experimenting with new films and techniques (I shoot digital, too). Life’s an adventure, and I love that photography helps me capture it.

Design.

Design’s kind of the bridge between the artsy photo side of myself and the more technical web and app development side. I really love working with digital illustration and both print design (like posters, business cards, and artwork) and digital design, like mockups and graphics.

Web.

Web design was what got me interested in computers in the first place. I’d always been into art and making things and web design seemed like the logical next step. I strive for clean, simple and functional and am (ever still) working on turning what I see in my head into functioning code.

It's an excuse to explore.

I was first introduced to photography during my freshman year of high school — totally by chance, actually. It has ended up being one of the best chance events that has ever happened to me and has continued to effect my life in countless ways ever since. Photography is a lot of things to me: a way to express myself, to create something, to capture memories. But most importantly, it’s an excuse to explore. And that’s what I love about it. And that’s one of the biggest things I love about shooting with film, too.

Working to create beautiful things that inspire.

I want to inspire people.

My experience with design really grew out of the merging of two areas I was already working in — photography and web development. I’d always liked making things that (I thought, at least) looked nice and wanted to get better at it, which is when I really started messing around and getting my hands dirty with design. I still have a long way to go of course, but my end goal is to be able to take something I see in my head and end up with a beautiful result that inspires people, whether that be on paper or screen.

Because functional is beautiful.

I’ve been making websites for six or seven years now and creating each new project continues to be one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve found to date. I believe that aside from being functional, good web design is simple, clean, and puts content first. That’s what makes it beautiful, and that’s what I strive for in every project I create. While I do program in other (non-web) languages, web design and development continues to be my main technological focus and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
